Swedish-American Immigrant Monument

Grace, the Sixth Generation!

Today, my Dad, Mom, sister Jennifer, nephew Derek, Grace and I went to Munterville, Iowa for the dedication of the Swedish American Immigrant Monument. We also met up with my Aunt Barb, cousins Riley, Camden, and Sutton and cousins Lorna and Lisa. My Great-Great Grandparents Gustof and Emma (Swanson) Scholine were Swedish immigrants. This area and town was settled by some of the first Swedes in Iowa between 1840 and 1910.

A few months back my Aunt Barbara sent out letters to all family members asking for a donation to this monument and a plaque will be put in place with our ancestors names on it. There were close to forty members of our family that donated.

At the dedication there were some speakers including former Attorney General of Iowa Evan Hultman. Then the sculptor Nick Klepinger unveiled the monument of a Swedish Family. It is a beautiful sculpture. To learn more about the monument go to http://www.swedishmonument.org/
